Terms and Definitions for Twitter Data
Hoaxlines is not affiliated with The Public Good Projects (PGP) though we do greatly appreciate their making the data available. PGP has not overseen or reviewed this analysis.
This dashboard presents English-language conversation around vaccines that originates from, or is relevant to, the indicated geographic region. The information below provides instructions and context for each of the boxes shown on the dashboard.
Total mentions: A running count of mentions of vaccines, variations of those words, and hashtags, across all sources for the selected time frame. Click on the number to see the details of the most recent information.
Average counts: The average mentions per day and per hour for the selected time frame. This is calculated by the number of mentions/time frames (hours per day) of the dashboard.
Potential impressions: The potential impression counts for Twitter, news, forums, blogs, Q&A sites, and review sites over the selected time frame. Click on the impression count to see recent posts.
Total unique authors: The number of unique authors from Twitter and Instagram.
Total mentions: A trendline of all mentions across the profile. Click the line to see the top posts at that time.
Total mentions by conversation theme: Trendlines of common themes identified by PGP as the ones most commonly found in conversation. The chart presents the top 5 themes in conversation during the selected time period. Click on the trendlines to see the most recent posts at that time.
Top conversation themes: A bar chart of the top 10 conversation themes identified by PGP. Click on the theme name to see the most recent stories in that theme.
Trending stories: The most shared stories by link on social media. Click the box and arrow on the right of each line to see the full story.
Popular tweets: The most retweeted stories via Twitter, sorted by the number of retweets within the selected time frame. Click the box and arrow to see the full tweet.
Hashtag cloud: Top Hashtags being used on Twitter and Instagram. Click on a hashtag to see the most recent posts using that hashtag.
Word cloud: Top words used within news stories. Click on the words to view the most recent trending stories using that word.
Top authors by mention: The top authors on Twitter. The authors with the most mentions are at the top; the mentions count reflects all mentions over the timeframe selected. Click the Twitter handle to see the account.
Top authors by influence: The most “influential” Twitter authors engaging in conversation. Influence scoring methodology considers a combination of Author attributes such as the number of followers, the number of posts if the author is verified, and the likelihood of the author being a bot.
